Short Abstract
This webinar will refresh your knowledge, make sure that you increase your understanding of meaning of the bio medical literature and thereby positively influences decision making in your own work.
Everyone in the field of bio medical life sciences is familiar with terms like "cohort study", ' incidence', 'relative risk"; but do you still remember what these actually entail? And what was again the difference with e.g. a case control study, an odds ratio and cumulative incidence?
The lecture will go back to the basics and explain to you once more what epidemiology is and what the terminology used actually means in practice.
Areas Covered in the Webinar:
- The epidemiological approach, uses of epidemiology, tasks of epidemiology in public health/health economics and the concept of causality (versus association).
- Characteristics of the various types of epidemiological study designs: descriptive and analytical (cross-sectional comparative study, case-control study, cohort study, and specifically the randomized controlled trial).
- Epidemiological measures of disease frequency (prevalence, incidence, cumulative incidence) and mortality
- Measures of the strength of the association of disease with other factors (risk difference, relative risk and odds ratio)
Who should attend
Anyone who is involved in Risk Management, Epidemiology etc.
